Half the Year Is Gone… But Is That the Right Question?

“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”  Psalm 90:12 (KJV)

Almost every post I saw today said the same thing: “Half of the year is gone.”

Yes, on the calendar, half the year has passed. But there are more important questions to ask than how much time has slipped away.

The real question isn’t, “How much of the year is left?” The real question is, “Am I living the life God has called me to live?”

What are you here for?

What have you yet to do that you already know God has asked you to do?

How can you make the remaining months count?

Who have you helped?

More importantly, are you walking in God’s will?

It is easy to measure life by calendars, milestones, and accomplishments. But heaven measures something deeper: obedience. God is not primarily interested in how busy we are; He is interested in whether we are faithful to what He has entrusted to us.

Too often, we exhaust ourselves trying to pass an exam God never set for us. We chase goals He never assigned, compare ourselves with journeys He never intended for us, and postpone the very things He has been asking us to do.
The Apostle Paul reminds us:
“See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.” Ephesians 5:15–17 (KJV)

Redeeming the time is more than making every moment productive. It means living intentionally, aligning our lives with God’s purpose, and understanding His will. A life spent in God’s will is never a wasted life, regardless of how quickly the calendar moves.

The greatest tragedy is not that half the year is gone. The greatest tragedy is spending our time pursuing what God never called us to pursue while neglecting what He did.

So don’t just count the months. Count your obedience.

There is still enough time for God to accomplish His purpose in your life this year. If there is an instruction you’ve been delaying, a step of faith you’ve been avoiding, or an assignment you’ve been postponing, begin today.

The remaining months can become the most fruitful part of your year not because there is more time, but because there is renewed surrender.

May we not simply finish the year. May we finish it in the center of God’s will.
